About Me
Welcome! My name is Deresse Eshetu, and I've been a tour guide in Addis Ababa for over 10 years. I truly believe that every corner of this city has a story to tell — and sharing those stories with visitors from around the world has become my life's passion. Guiding people through Ethiopia's rich culture, history, and daily life gives me joy and purpose every single day.
My Background in Education
Empress Menen School
My journey started in education long before I became a tour guide. From 2001 to 2007 EC, I taught history at Empress Menen School in Addis Ababa, helping students appreciate the country's incredible past and understand the value of their heritage. Those years shaped my passion for storytelling and sharing Ethiopia's history with others.
Addis Ababa University
Later, I joined Addis Ababa University as an anthropology lecturer (2010 EC-present), where I continue to teach and learn about cultures and societies. Alongside my teaching, I also serve as an educational officer, contributing to programs that promote cultural understanding and academic growth within the university community.
My Academic Journey
My deep love for history led me to pursue a master's degree in the field and i am also a PHD student in social anthropology in Addis Ababa University, which became the foundation of my career as both an educator and a guide. Studying history helped me see how every site, tradition, and community in Addis Ababa connects to a larger story — one that I now share with travelers who visit my city.
My Guiding Experience
Since becoming a professional tour guide, I've had the pleasure of leading countless guests through Addis Ababa's most iconic landmarks — from the National Museum and Holy Trinity Cathedral to the Merkato Market and Entoto Hills. But beyond the destinations, I focus on creating experiences that bring people closer to Ethiopia's living culture. My tours are about learning, feeling, and connecting — not just seeing.
Languages and Communication
I'm fluent in English, French, and German, which allows me to communicate comfortably with travelers from all over the world. I believe language is more than just words — it's a way to connect hearts and share understanding across cultures.
Beyond the Tour
My support doesn't end with sightseeing. I'm always happy to offer restaurant recommendations, hotel suggestions, and help with any travel-related needs. Whether it's tasting authentic Ethiopian cuisine, finding the right accommodation, or exploring local traditions, I make sure every guest enjoys a smooth and memorable stay.
My Mission
My mission is simple — to help visitors experience Ethiopia not just as tourists, but as friends. Through meaningful stories, genuine hospitality, and local experiences, I work to make each tour a story worth remembering. When you travel with me, you don't just visit Addis Ababa — you feel it.
